The Four Seasons DIFC is fast becoming our new favourite hotel, not only for its luxurious rooms and amazing rooftop pool but also for its notable restaurants and bars that are the hotspot du jour for Dubai’s in-crowd.
Furthermore, Firebird Diner, the American themed restaurant located on the ground floor of the hotel has just announced the launch of its Thursday Night Blues Brunch and if there’s one thing we love more than a UAE brunch, it’s a Thursday night brunch. Spearheaded by Michelin-starred Michael Mina, Firebird promises to offer a completely new experience within the Dubai dining scene.
Never ones to turn down a good feed, we popped along to their preview night ahead of its launch this week to try out Dubai’s latest brunch offering.
Firstly, walking into Firebird Diner is like stepping back in time; a time where girls wore capri pants and matching ribbons in their hair and the jukebox reigns supreme. The oversized ‘EAT’ light up sign at the entrance signals what is to come. Be prepared to eat, eat and then eat some more.
The entire interior of Firebird has been thought through very carefully, transporting you to an upscale American eatery with the usher of a menu tilt. Some theme restaurants can take it too far, with decor appearing gaudy and a bit naff but Firebird Diner manages to avoid this entirely, instead reinforcing the stature of the hotel that houses it and exudes an entirely different dining experience.
The Thursday Night Blues Brunch offers diners live music whilst they feast on a special set menu of American classics with a twist. The live swing band entertained diners through three sets of jazz and blues from 8:30pm-11:00pm creating quite the raucous atmosphere amidst the well-healed, stylish crowd that DIFC attracts. We can happily say that they were one of the best live music acts at any brunch in Dubai at the moment, creating an aura of excitement, nostalgia and relaxation all at once.
The brunch itself takes the form of sharing platters where you are invited to choose 3 dishes from a menu for each course. This might not sound a lot but trust us, the portions are the size of standard main meals. This is a brunch where you won’t leave hungry!
Enjoy dishes such as Buffalo style Chicken Wings with buttered hot sauce and bleu cheese, homemade bread and a Kale and Quinoa Salad with radish cracked almonds to start.
Main courses consist of mouth-wateringly good All American Wagyu beef sliders with duck fat french fries, Duck Duck Goose (breast & confit leg with foie gras) and succulent Beef Cheeks among many more tempting dishes suitable for both vegetarians and carnivores alike. Sides such as truffle mashed potato and roasted root vegetables top the mains off nicely.
Desert was, unsurprisingly my favourite part of the night with Campfire Smores playing a focal part, a dish that seemed to be on most people’s’ tables that night. Roast your own marshmallow encased chocolate pop on top of an open flame for some real gooey fun. The Chocolate Layer Cake is also worthy of a mention for its sheer chocolatey goodness alone!
Of course, no brunch is complete without a good drinks selection and Firebird follows the traditional brunch format of non-alcoholic and alcoholic packages. The alcoholic package includes sparkling wine and if you’d like to try the imaginative list of cocktails and mocktails that the bar serves you are more than welcome to still do at an additional cost.
The Thursday Night Blues Brunch at Firebird Diner was one of the best brunches we’ve been to in ages. Whether it was the lively, friendly crowd that packed themselves into the plush booths, the theatrical open kitchen or the rhythmic sounds of the live swing band or even the excellent food itself, we had a blast! Transported to America – the home of the Blues in a sophisticated yet fun environment. You can come along anytime from 7pm with all-inclusive food and drink for up to 3 hours once you’re seated. There’s even an alfresco terrace for when the weather cools which will make the ideal spot for a sunset brunch after a long week at work.
The diner is open from 7pm until 1am, with last orders being taken at 12:30am for brunch on a Thursday.
The Thursday Blues Brunch runs each and every Thursday from September 30th 2016.
Nonalcoholic brunch for 275AED per person with a selection of mocktails and juices. Alcoholic Brunch for 450AED with a selection of white and red wine, draught beers, cocktails and prosecco.
