After a sell-out gig in 2014, the legendary Santana is set to return to Dubai for the Emirates Airline Jazz Festival as part of his worldwide Luminosity Tour 2016.
The Multiple Grammy winner and global guitar music icon gave a mind-blowing performance on his last visit to the Emirates and Chillout Productions proudly welcome the legendary figure once again.
Carlos Santana is one of music’s heroes, his music an eclectic mix of Latin rock and blues with jazz and world music resulting in a harmonious sound that remains unique to this much-loved artist.
Next year sees the 14th edition of the Emirates Airline Dubai Jazz Festival® 2016 which Santana will wow the crowds at on February 26th at Dubai Media City Amphitheatre.
2014 saw another milestone in Santana’s history after the release of his album Corazon, where he became the second recording artist ever to have a top ten album on the charts for six consecutive decades. With millions of records sold and countless world tours his influence on today’s musicians justifies his position as a musical ambassador across the globe.
“It’s an immense honor to have SANTANA on the Jazz Festival bill and grace the stage once more this coming February. We are thrilled that Dubai was one of the selected cities worldwide for his tour next year. His previous show in 2014 was a timely sell-out; it was exceptional and had witnessed a high level of audience interaction with an unexpected extension of the performance. We are very excited to announce the return of the legend in 2016; icons like Santana will surely attract the crowd from all generations and also from countries in the region.” stated Anthony Younes, CEO and founder of Chillout Productions.
Santana’s star emerged onto the global stage with an epic set at the Woodstock Festival back in 1969, the same year that its self-titled debut LP Santana came out. Their first Top 10 hit ‘Evil Ways’ stayed on Billboard’s album chart for two years and was shortly followed by more classics and Billboard number 1 albums – Abraxas and Santana III.
Fast forward more than forty years and almost as many albums later and Santana has sold more than 100 million records and reached more than 100 million fans at concerts worldwide. To date, Santana has won 10 GRAMMY® Awards, including a record-tying nine for a single project, 1999’s Supernatural (including Album of the Year and Record of the Year for “Smooth”) as well as three Latin GRAMMY’s.
Supporting Santana are the Argentinian group ‘La Bomba De Tiempo’, an ensemble of seventeen percussionists who are loved for their unique and unrepeatable music generated live on stage through the dialogue between the musicians and the director, creating an improvisation based on a code of more than 70 hand signs. This opening act promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime magical show with the artists interacting with the audience in a way not seen before in Dubai, creating a ritual of rhythm and percussion.
