Dusit International is well-known for its luxurious Thai inspired hotels aimed predominately at the business and luxury leisure traveller and the imposing Abu Dhabi hotel is no exception. Dusit is synonymous with world-class hospitality and has been now for some 65 years which is delivered with iconic touches of the service and artistry of Thailand.
Rising tall from the once desertscape, Dusit Thani Abu Dhabi stands proudly in the centre of the city’s new business and government district, close to both the facilities of the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre as well as the natural, lush habitat of the Eastern Mangroves. In short, it’s location is faultless.
It’s hard to miss this exceedingly tall hotel for it stands out like a beacon amongst many a high-rise and once inside the architecture takes on a new perspective. With a central lobby that extends up from floor to ceiling, a prominent glass tower with each of the 402 rooms and suites and 131 executive apartments framing each side. It’s quite frankly, breathtaking.
What we love about the design of this hotel even more is that it doesn’t feel the need to join in with the regional trend of gold leaf wallpaper and chintzy, gilt detailing, as with all Dusit properties, it lends itself to inspiration from Thailand resulting in both a fresh and modern architectural design and an eclectic interior complete with soft furnishings in clashing colours and oversized bird cages and artifacts in the lobby which all create a warm, welcoming feel. It’s Thai elegance at its best.
As mentioned, the hotel is vast seemingly to accommodate the wealth of business and leisure travelers to the exciting Emirate of Abu Dhabi which continues to grow both in economy as well as tourism. Whisked up through the transparent vertigo-inducing elevators through the spine of the hotel, rooms are divided off each side offering spectacular views out across the city.
There are just over 350 rooms that come in both Deluxe and Club and both feature floor-to-ceiling windows, decorated with delicate Thai accents to give a sense of modern luxury. The rooms are larger than average and come complete with all the amenities and mod-cons that you would expect from a 5-star hotel in the region. For those that prefer the luxury of a suite, offering slightly larger living space these also have a separate work area with desk which is ideal for the business traveler. If you book one of the 10 club suites then you are also entitled to use of the club lounge with is great for added privacy and facilities.
We stayed in a Club Executive Suite which offers a separate bedroom, living room, bathroom and dressing area making for dual-occupancy that little bit more comfortable. It’s also very useful when staying for longer durations so you can separate living and work space.
There is of course, a presidential and royal suite, both of which offer esteemed luxury and an abundance of space at 450sqm. The Presidential Suite offers some of the best views of Abu Dhabi with an 180 degree panorama whilst the Royal Suite boasts it’s own spa, making both ideal home away from homes whilst travelling.
There is a spa at the hotel, the Namm Spa offering a variety of products and treatments with 8 treatment rooms. There is also an outdoor swimming pool, again with a fantastic vista and the DFit Fitness Centre with yoga and aerobics studio from those that prefer to stay a little more active.
Something Dusit Thani Abu Dhabi is not short of is dining options, with a total of 6 world-class restaurants offering exceptional cuisine and hospitality allowing you to indulge in cuisine from around the world in comfort. These restaurants offer a diverse range of both traditional and modern dishes, from authentic Thai fare to succulent steaks and gourmet international specialities. Our personal favourite is the hotel’s signature restaurant, Benjarong serving Royal Thai cuisine in a unique space that fuses contemporary style and tradition Thai design motifs in sync with the entire hotel. The menu boasts recipes that have been passed down over generations, bringing the flavours and tastes of Asia to Abu Dhabi. The Chef de Cuisine, Yongyos Chimthep highly recommends the Wok Fried Chicken with Capsicums, drilled chili and cashew nuts and we couldn’t agree more. What’s more, this beautiful restaurant also offers a standard business lunch from Sunday through to Thursday which includes reasonably priced set menus.
For a different take on dining at Dusit Thani The Capital Grill, also found on the ground floor is a chic, upscale Mediterranean bistro which makes for sophisticated dining serving premium meat cuts complimented by a variety of signature beverages. Or for those looking for a light snack or simply grabbing a coffee with colleagues The Orchard Lobby Lounge is a welcome space with a scattered seating arrangement that allows for the privacy of business meetings.
Apart from the striking architecture and the notable Thai hospitality at this hotel, the business facilities really are second to none with numerous meeting rooms and support facilities all designed to make your business trip as convenient as possible. There is even an enormous ballroom on the lower ground floor, with separate back entrance which makes a great option for large-scale private events. This stunning 785sqm space features high ceilings and a private foyer which makes a perfect reception area, holding up to a maximum of 1,000 guests.
When choosing a hotel for business travel, sometimes options can be limited, Dusit Thani Abu Dhabi manages to retain its excellence in this area without losing it’s appeal to leisure travelers, it’s a quiet, refined hotel for its size that treats its core values the way it treats each one of its guests, with utmost respect.
