El Sur, the contemporary Spanish hotspot at The Westin Hotel has recently launched ‘ Iberico Nights’, running Saturday-Wednesday from 6-8pm.
Perfect for those nights when you’re looking to grab a quick bite with friends and indulge in the Mediterranean way of relaxed, informal dining.
Iberico Nights offer a sumptuous selection of Iberian cold cuts paired with traditional cheese and a bottle of grape and all priced at just AED 250 for the ultimate sharing experience.
We popped along on a Wednesday for a taste of spain and to whittle away a couple of hours with good food and good conversation and El Sur was the obvious destination.
Located inside the palatial Westin hotel, El Sur is nestled inside the hotel and boasts an elegant yet casual atmosphere. For those not dining on the main menu (which is truly excellent by the way), you are perched on the wooden bar stools in the midst of the action in the bar area for your Iberico Night treat. There is, when the weather cools, a stunning terrace here where you can watch the sunset over the ocean and get a feel for dining out on the cobbled streets of a legendary Spanish tapas restaurant. Almost.
El Sur is known for the dynamism of its menu, offering innovative sharing and main dishes that perfectly reflect Spanish cuisine, adapted to the Middle East region. It’s authenticity with a twist.
For Iberico nights, you’re given a large sharing board full of crusty warm bread, delicious slices of traditional cheese and cold cut meats including Salami and pastrami. The best way to enjoy is to slather the beautiful bread with tomato relish, add cheese and meat and taste in one go, so we’re told. All washed down with a delicious, fruity red, Tempranillo.
If you’re still hungry, you can choose a selection of tapas from the menu (although this is at an additional cost) such as Pincho Moruno de Cordero (minted lamb skewers) and patatas bravas, a Spanish favourite of small, potatoes in a spicy tomato sauce. You must try the Acietuna liquida marinada (liquid marinated olives) and the Gambas al ajilo y guindilla, beautiful garlic and chilli prawns.
As you’re already seated at the bar, you should extend your night and try one of the expertly mixed cocktails available, with a variety of fresh herbs and fruits taking a starring role, reimagining classics such as a Watermelon Martini.
A night at El Sur is a relaxed, intimate one and manages to combine the best traditions of Spain in a modern way. Whether you’re looking for after work nibbles or a more, formal meal, the Iberico Nights and El Sur’s fantastic menu in general, make it the perfect place to relajarse.
