The new Bentayga is Bentley’s first and quite staggering attempt at an SUV. As it comes from the VW family it shares the same platform as the Audi Q7, Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne but this is where the similarities end.
The Bentayga has a twin turbo charged 6litre W12 engine making it the most powerful SUV ever. This monster of a vehicle produces 600 horsepower meaning an incredible 0-100kph time of 4seconds and a top speed of 301kph. To put that into some sort of context, that’s faster than an Aston Martin Vanquish Volante.
The cars off-road capabilities have not been compromised despite its lightning fast speed on the road. The cars all-wheel drive system and clever multi-mode suspension means the car is just as capable at dealing with all manner of surfaces as any class leading SUV should.
The cabin in the Bentley, as you would expect, is nothing short of opulent. Expect many an envious gaze if you’re one of the people on the 12 month waiting list for this car. With 15 different leather options and 7 different wood options Bentley allow the customer to create such an individualized cabin its mind-blowing. On the outside, Bentley have a range of no less than 27 trillion bespoke colours, so you could be in the showroom for quite some time.
Even the optional dashboard clock is designed by Breitling, there really is no optional extra that’s “too much”. My personal favourite, the Bentley optional picnic hamper is 112,000AED. I think you get the idea.
As you would expect all this lavishness does not come cheap. Once you throw in a few optional extras, like the superb 18 speaker Naim stereo, the Bentayga is well over AED 1.1million. But does this lofty price tag translate to the best on the market? We will have to wait for the Lamborghini Urus and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan to really judge this car amongst its peers but for now I’ll simply say it’s nothing short of amazing and I’d like one in every colour.
