4.Fairmont Le Château Montebello, Quebec

quebec

Another Fairmont property, but this time entirely different. This hotel’s pool has a rich history, built in 1931 for the private use of the Seigniory Club – whose elite membership included reputed Canadian businessmen, politicians, foreign dignitaries and international celebrities  and at 75-foot-long, this pool is the largest indoor hotel pool in Canada. Inspired by the châteaux of the Swiss Alps, the resort and the pool were built using the same roughhewn log construction that made the property famous. An artistic coffered hand-painted wooden ceiling with colorful motives of sea horses, scorpions and flowers in tones of burgundy, green and white adds to the rustic vibe of the pool.

Known around the world for its vast swimming pool, San Alfonso del Mar boasts the world’s second largest swimming pool (recently overtaken by a property in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt) but at 1,013m (3,323 ft) long and containing 250 million litres of seawater, this swimming pool is quite the talking point. The water itself is pumped from the Pacific Ocean before being filtered and treated, safe for guests to float away the day. Literally.
