Turning History Into Luxury at Hotel Can Mostatxins, Mallorca

The newly opened Hotel Can Mostatxins (Hotel Moustache – yes really) certainly is getting tongues wagging and not only for it’s rather amusing name.

After an intensive four-year restoration, this beautiful unique hotel in the historic town of  Alcúdia is a must-stay for anyone who prefers their holiday accommodation with a bit of character.

This restored XVth Century Tower House is located just 30 metres from the popular tourist hot-spot that is Alcúdia’s main square and is attracting esteemed travellers the world over, looking for a relaxing yet indulgent break.

This boutique hotel consists of just nine rooms, all completely different and decorated to the highest standard. Each room is named after a local cove, representing a place of peace. The interior is a perfect fusion of original traditional styling and modern state of the art furnishings, with glass walkways contrasting against the exposed stone, it’s a new level of luxury not see before in the region.

Each room comes fully equipped with everything the demanding traveller would need such as blackout window blinds to block out the Mediterranean sun, guest iPads, bluetooth speakers, complimentary WiFi, flatscreen TV… the list is endless.

For a real sense of Majorcan charm however, the stunning Tower Suite, laid out over two floors is the epitome of luxury travel. With a living room, spacious ensuite bathroom, wooden open staircase leading to a large bedroom on the upper level with unrivalled views from the private terrace stretching out to the mountains in the distance and the Bay of Pollenca.

To add to the sense of luxury, it is the only boutique property within the walls of Alcúdia to feature a spectacular spa pool. Other hotel amenities include one of the best continental breakfasts you will try in Mallorca which even offers flexible dining times, perfect for time-poor travellers.

I’ve always said that the mark of a good boutique hotel is an Honesty bar so I am pleased to report that Hotel Can Mostatxins has one. Guests can help themselves to a range of champagne, cava, fine wines, beers, spirits and soft drinks around the clock so you can soak up the breathtakingly beautiful design of this hotel whilst sipping your tipple of choice.

The Hotel Can Mostatxins has been developed by the Worthington family who have resided in the region for over 30 years. Former Vice President of InterContinental Hotels Peter Worthington was offered the house known as Can Mostatxins back in 2009 and took on the enormous project with the sole aim of “delivering a lasting legacy”, a visit to this beautiful hotel will tell you he’s managed to do just that.

Original historical features of the building have been kept including a wine vat, the 15th century tower and a large courtyard cut out of sandstone sitting some 20 metres below the ground.

So where did the famous name come from? Well, rumour has it that the original owner of the manor house sported a rather famous facial decoration.
